Moonstone is a silicate feldspar mineral and has a beautiful moonlike opalescent sheen caused by light reflecting off of the microscopic layers of feldspar crystal plates inside of the stone. Thicker pieces of moonstone give off a whiter shade, whereas thinner layers reflect a bluish color. Depending on the lighting, it can often give off rainbow effects.
Moonstone's link to lunar cycles associate it with fertility, pregnancy and childbirth. It is also sometimes considered a stone of prophesy, and can bring protection to travelers. It is a stone of balance when regrading the emotions and can be a soothing stone, good for stress.Moonstone is also believed to strengthen empathy, intuition and psychic abilities.
While wearing moonstone can bring peace of mind, the ability to concentrate and prevention of betrayal in love and marriage, it is considered to bring a cold or chilling effect to the wearer, causing ailments associated with chills or colds. To balance this, some people recommend to wear in conjunction with a heating stone associated with the sun such as a ruby.
This stone is very unique and widely varies in color from one piece to another. No two pieces are exactly alike, and the actual color may differ from that shown in the pictures. The color can also vary depending on the light the stone is being viewed in. |
